Founded in 2015 by cancer survivor and Yogi, Christopher Howell, Yoga Hike™ was created to help others replenish the spirit and feed the soul through experiencing Yoga in nature.
An avid hiker and outdoorsman, Christopher sought inspiration from adventures in National Parks for years, and after finding Yoga thought the two were perfectly suited to increase life-force or vitality known as “Prana” from the earth, trees, and the sun.
Mission
With a mission to inspire people to choose their own unique purpose, Yoga Hike provides experiences to assist in the healing process that occurs when one reclaims their journey. Nature does most of the work, but with a little help from Christopher and his team of trained Yoga instructors, Yoga Hike has become a phenomenon in the Austin, TX area and enables people to get outside, practice Yoga, and most importantly healing.
Vision
In 2017, over 50 hikes were hosted in local, state and national parks with a focus on practicing specific breathing techniques, combined with intentional asanas (poses) and mindfulness, to empower individuals to be more present, alive and effective. The idea is to draw upon the inspiration and beauty of nature to help others find their Prana so they may continue to help others grow and live more purposeful, compassionate and adventurous lives.
In 2018, Yoga Hike continues to grow in popularity and welcomes Yoga enthusiasts of all levels to enjoy a heightened yoga experience while surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful natural scenery. The unique and unforgettable sessions are perfect for all skill and experience levels, and beginners are welcome and encouraged. Check the Yoga Hike calendar regularly for updated locations.
About Christopher
While studying to become a Yoga Therapist with Sundara Yoga Therapy on his road to full recovery from cancer, Christopher vowed to share whatever knowledge he gained to help others find their way back to optimal health and authentic happiness.
As an avid hiker and outdoorsman, he hiked many beautiful National, State, and Municipal Parks, and developed a strong connection to nature that re-established a child-like wonder that can only be inspired by nature.
In January 2015, he began inviting close friends to go on hikes with him and practice Yoga. Soon after, Yoga Hike was established. Today, Yoga Hikes are held almost every weekend throughout Central Texas and are expected to grow in numbers with the continued popularity of the program. The rest, as they say, is history.
